SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip Mp3 Player Review

SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip Mp3 Player Review: After having great luck with my previous Sandisk Clip+, I decided to give the newer SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip a try. After all, it boasts a larger 1.1 inch full colorful screen, clock, stopwatch, customize feature, a better radio player with RDS, aac file format support, and album art support.

As mentioned in my SanDisk Clip+ Review, my opinion is that Mp3 Players shouldn't require usage of proprietary software such as iTunes to manage your music, and the Clip Zip works independently of such software. Just drag and drop your music into the music folder, and you are good to go! You can also create playlists from within the player.

SanDisk Clip Zip vs Clip+ External Differences

SanDisk Clip Zip

First outward impressions of the SanDisk Clip Zip MP3 Player are that much like it's Clip+ predecessor, this Mp3 player is small. The SanDisk Clip Zip is just a tad larger than a Sansa Clip+, but unless you put them side by side, you'd never know. Weight is still around one ounce. Construction quality appears as good as the Clip+, and it doesn't look or feel cheap, although the casing, and buttons are still plastic.

As you can see below, the Clip Zip utilizes a Micro USB Port instead of the Mini USB Port that the Clip+ used. Mini USB is quickly becoming standard! The SanDisk Sansa Zip also utilizes the same excellent Clip on design as it's predecessor, utilizing overlapping teeth to keep it attached to a pocket or shirt.

The left side of the SanDisk Clip Zip appears identical to it's predecessor. Still utilizing the side mounted headphone jack and Micro SD card slot.

SanDisk Clip Zip vs Clip+ Internal Differences

After a full charge via a USB port, and powering the device up, I was greeted with a clean graphical boot animation. Once booted, the colorful main menu options can be navigated horizontally (the Clip+ main menu required vertical navigation). The home button has also been replaced with a back button, and a clock appears in the upper left hand corner, which I found to be a nice bonus. Album art, if embedded in the file, is also displayed as the song plays.

SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip won't turn on? If you experience a problem where your SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip appears dead (Screen goes black and won't turn back on). Simply press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then release the power button. The Clip Zip uses a different processor than the Clip+ and is prone to freezing on rare occasions, and needs to be reset.

Just like the SanDisk Sansa Clip+, I was achieving about the same battery life with the SanDisk Clip Zip. About 8-10 hours from a full charge at 3/4 volume, playing mp3 files of various bit rates, using high quality Klipsch S4 Earbuds.
